Why Choose Bushnell for Aquatic Physical Therapy?
Our team at Bushnell Physical Therapy combines the benefits of skilled Physical Therapy with the benefits of water. Bushnell Physical Therapy utilizes a Hydroworx Underwater Treadmill which implements specialized technology and uses the therapeutic properties of water to provide a low impact environment to better address specific patient’s functional deficits and rehab goals.
Benefits of Aquatic Therapy
Reduce Joint Stress
Buoyancy provides an offloaded yet supported environment to decrease weight-bearing, compressive joint forces, and overall demand of activity on the body.
Reduce Inflammation:
Hydrostatic pressure helps reduce inflammation and allows for increased exercise progressions with decreased demand on the cardiovascular system specifically for patients dealing with more specialized diagnoses.
Reduce Joint Stiffness:
Warm water promotes increased circulation, decreases joint stiffness and muscle tension, and alleviates pain.
Stress-Free PT:
Provides a safe, controlled environment that decreases anxiety that sometimes comes with land based exercise, decreases the potential fall risk, and increases confidence with gait and balance interventions.
Quicker Recovery:
Allows post-surgical patients to progress to various stages of their protocol quicker in a lower impact environment.

What to Expect During an Aquatic Therapy Session
HydroWorx Underwater Treadmill
The Hydroworx Underwater Treadmill is an above ground pool. It is a typical treadmill enclosed in a cube that fills with water.
Your Therapist’s Role
The therapist does not get in the pool with the patient.
In-Pool Exercises
After getting into the pool, the session will include a variety of standing/seated strengthening exercises. It may also include walking/jogging on the underwater treadmill in various different directions.
Customized Treatment Plan
All treatment plans are set to enhance the patient’s individual plan of care based on the injury and symptoms.
Separate Pool & Land Therapy
All pool Physical Therapy visits are separate from the land Physical Therapy visits so that the focus can be one or the other depending on the daily appointment.
Primary Benefits of Service

Reduce Joint Stress
In the water, buoyancy reduces the weight placed on your joints, easing pressure and impact. This creates a low-stress environment that makes movement more comfortable while protecting sensitive joints during exercise and rehabilitation.

Increase Circulation
Warm water and hydrostatic pressure work together to boost circulation, bringing more oxygen and nutrients to muscles and joints. This improved blood flow supports healing, reduces inflammation, and helps the body recover more efficiently.

Reduce Joint Stiffness
Aquatic therapy uses the natural properties of warm water and gentle pressure to stimulate blood flow. This enhanced circulation delivers vital nutrients, reduces swelling, and accelerates the body’s natural healing process.

Quicker Recovery
The low-impact environment of water allows patients to progress through their rehab protocols faster and with less strain. By reducing joint stress, aquatic therapy supports quicker recovery and helps patients return to normal movement with greater confidence.
