Joint pain can make everyday life harder than it should be. Whether it’s knee stiffness when getting out of bed, shoulder pain reaching overhead, aching hips during walks, or neck and back discomfort that never seems to fully go away, arthritis and chronic joint pain can slowly limit the activities you enjoy most.

At Bushnell Physical Therapy, we believe movement is medicine. But we also understand that painful joints can make movement feel intimidating or frustrating. That’s where we come in.

Our approach is simple:

  • Reset irritated tissues and calm pain
  • Retrain movement patterns, strength, and stability
  • Restore confidence, mobility, and quality of life

Whether your pain is caused by arthritis, aging, injury, inflammation, surgery, or years of wear and tear, our goal is to help you keep moving safely and confidently.

Why Patients Choose Bushnell Physical Therapy

No two patients experience arthritis the same way. Some people struggle with pain during exercise, while others feel limited by stiffness, weakness, instability, or loss of confidence.

That’s why every treatment plan is individualized to your specific needs, goals, and activity level.

Our patients consistently tell us they appreciate:

  • Feeling listened to
  • Receiving individualized attention
  • Being guided through exercises step-by-step
  • Having a plan tailored specifically to them
  • Understanding why they are doing certain treatments

We take the time to get to know your symptoms, lifestyle, and goals so your treatment feels personal — not generic.

What Treatment Looks Like

Many patients benefit from targeted treatments such as dry needling or ASTYM therapy, especially when muscle tension, stiffness, or irritation is limiting movement. These techniques can help reduce symptoms enough to make exercise and movement more effective, which is where long-term progress really happens.

Depending on the patient, treatment may include:

  • Therapeutic exercise
  • Joint mobilization
  • Manual therapy

What to Expect at Your First Visit

Your first appointment starts with a full evaluation to better understand your symptoms, mobility limitations, strength, movement patterns, and goals.

From there, we build a treatment plan based on what you need specifically.

For some people, the first priority is calming pain down enough to move comfortably again. For others, it’s improving strength, flexibility, endurance, or stability. Most treatment plans evolve over time as symptoms improve and confidence builds.

We want patients to leave therapy not only feeling better, but understanding how to keep making progress on their own.

Common Areas We Treat

Many of our patients are active adults trying to stay healthy and independent. Others are recovering from surgery, hoping to avoid joint replacement, or simply tired of feeling limited by pain all the time.

Not everybody wants to run marathons or play competitive pickleball. Sometimes the goal is just being able to walk comfortably, get through work without pain, play with grandkids, exercise consistently, or stop dreading stairs.

Those goals matter too.

We regularly work with patients dealing with:

Neck pain

Chronic back pain

Knee arthritis

Hip pain and stiffness

Shoulder pain

Post-surgical stiffness

Joint degeneration

Chronic inflammation

General mobility limitations

“My daughter has been in a pretty injury prone, high impact sport for a very long time so we’ve had our experiences with physical therapy clinics. We LOVED this one. They rearranged things to get her in fast, had all the treatment options we were looking for, explained things really well, and were just easy to deal with. Would definitely recommend.

“This is the best PT clinic in all of Utah! No need to look any further! I’ve come to Bushnell PT for several years and I’ve never been disappointed with my care. Their team of amazing PTs and PTAs have a talent of making physical therapy enjoyable and productive at the same time! They focus on the big picture of your care, instead of a quick, patchwork recovery. I’m so grateful to BPT for always getting me back doing the things I love!

Common Arthritis & Joint Pain Questions

Should I exercise if I have arthritis?

In most cases, yes. Appropriate movement and exercise are some of the best tools for managing arthritis. The key is choosing the right type and intensity of exercise for your body and symptoms.

What if movement hurts?

This is extremely common. Pain can make people avoid movement, which often leads to more stiffness and weakness over time.

Our goal is to help reduce pain enough that movement becomes more manageable and productive. Treatment is designed to meet you where you are currently — not where you “should” be.

Can physical therapy help me avoid surgery?

For many patients, physical therapy can significantly improve pain, mobility, and function. While not every patient can avoid surgery entirely, therapy often helps delay surgery or improve outcomes if surgery eventually becomes necessary.

Is arthritis just part of getting older?

Some joint changes are common with aging, but pain and loss of function should not simply be ignored. Many people experience meaningful improvements in strength, mobility, and quality of life with the right treatment approach.
